Basic Course - Alpine Skiing Techniques- 2010

The basic course “Alpine Skiing Techniques” for our 11th graders in Sterzing

The basic course “Alpine Skiing Techniques” for our 11th graders, which annually takes place in Italy in the first week of our winter holidays, has been a tradition at our school for six years. 17 participants from grammar school ‘Gymnasium Carolinum’ enrolled in this course after they had taken part in previous skiing camps in grades 9 and 10.

The trip to Sterzing/South Tyrol started at 5 am on Sunday, 6th February 2010. Having arrived in our great hotel ‘Sonnenheim’ we all couldn’t wait to start our first skiing experience at ‘Monte Cavallo’.Fortunately we were not disappointed, as to our great delight weather and piste conditions were excellent.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we changed from Sterzing to Ladurns, where you can find the home piste of the Olympic Champion of 2006, Patrick Staudacher. This skiing region offers best conditions for both training and the final exams. Thus, it also provided a good basis for the outstanding parallel turn and carving results, which where achieved by the students. Seven of them even reached the maximum score of 15 points.

After the exam on Wednesday a lot of students were happy about their very good final grades.

On the last day of our stay at ‘Monte Cavallo’ the weather was getting little cloudy and dull, which made our farewell a little easier.

In 2011 there will be another basic course in Sterzing. All successful participants of the skiing camp of the current 10th grade students can apply in autumn.
